The Virtual Sports New Franchise Project Blog Post

During the project three areas that challenged me were always remembering to book promotions, setting the right ticket price, and asking for the right price from sponsorship's. Two areas that I excelled in were the media planning to advertise my football team and licensing. The most important aspect of this project was the media planning because If you didn't  do that no one would know that there was a football team and no one would go to the games. If this happened then you would lose a lot of money.

Chapter 3 Scavenger Hunt Blog Post

The easiest task about the scavenger hunt was researching the questions.having a partner made it much easier to get the assignment done because I had to research one half of the questions and my partner had the other half. I would not have liked doing this alone because having a partner made the assignment go by faster. Yes this is a fair assessment of chapter 3 because each question contained information about what we have learned.

Piracy Scandals

Sony has experienced some piracy problems. Sony Computer Entertainment America's senior VP of marketing, Peter Dille, has admitted that the PlayStation Portable has been hit hard by piracy with as many as 50 million units in the marketplace potentially having been compromised. Due to some of the video games that Sony produced, the software that these games hold makes it easier for someone to copy the software. The admission comes at a point when Sony is finally giving the handheld platform a significant boost, with a string of key titles set to hit the shelves this year, including Assassin's Creed and MotorStorm but Dille agreed that older hardware could pose an ongoing problem for genuine software sales.

In June of 2005, MGM faced some piracy problems with Grokster. In MGM v. Grokster, the high court overturned a ruling that had barred Hollywood and the music industry from suing Internet services used by consumers to swap songs and movies for free. The decision was one of two key Internet-related cases that the Supreme Court handed down. The justices also overturned a prior ruling that required cable operators to open up their high-speed Internet lines to rivals. In Grokster, the court did not address the question of whether the technology at issue in the case -- known as file-sharing, or "peer-to-peer"  is illegal. Rather, the justices focused on the actions of the peer-to-peer software companies named in the case, Grokster Ltd. and StreamCast Networks Inc., the maker of file-sharing software known as Morpheus, and whether they encouraged the illegal use of their technology. This case involved Grokster accusing MGM that they provided movies and songs for free when they really weren't.

Athlete Endorsements

The only MLB player who makes more off the field than Ortiz is the retiring Derek Jeter. Since leading the Red Sox to their third World Series during his tenure, Ortiz has added endorsement deals with Dunkin' Donuts, Fanatics and New Balance. Ortiz inked an agreement with Samsung this year and took the selfie passed around the world with President Obama. His jersey was MLB's top-selling jersey during the offseason.

Michael Jeffery Jordan (born February 17, 1963), also known by his initials, MJ,  is an American former professional Basketball player, entrepreneur, and principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets. He played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. After his Pro career Michael still makes $80 million a year. He has endorsement deals with Gatorade, Nike, Hanes, Coca-Cola, MCI, Wheaties, and Rayovack batteries

A-Rod signed the 2 biggest contracts in baseball history—$252 million with the Texas Rangers in 2000 and $275 million with the Yankees in 2007. The Yankee deal includes $30 million in additional compensation if he reaches certain home run targets. Endorsements have been few for A-Rod despite his star stature. He earns $2 million annually off the field from sponsors Nike, Rawlings, Topps and Vita Coco.

Peyton Manning added a record fifth MVP trophy and third Super Bowl appearance in 2014, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.. The QB landed in Denver in 2012 with a five-year, $96 million contract that requires him to pass an annual physical in order to get paid. Manning is the NFL's top product endorser; earning $12 million annually off the field from companies like Buick, DirecTV, Gatorade and Papa John's. Manning became a Papa John's pizza franchisee in 2012 when he signed a deal to own 25 stores in the Denver area. Manning parted ways with Reebok this year after 12 years together, but added Nationwide to his endorsement portfolio.

Mike Trout, one of the leading icons in baseball today has signed some major endorsement deals. some include Body Armour Super Drink, Nike, and Rawlings.

After Miguel Cabrera achieved a Triple Crown in 2012 (the league’s first since 1967), he almost did it again in 2013, with numbers that were just about the same or better than the previous season (OBP of .442 , 44 homers, and 137 RBIs). With that track record, some analysts think Cabrera could get the Triple Crown again. And many more will tell you he’s the best player in baseball. You have to wonder why big endorsement deals haven’t followed, but he does have Chrysler and New Balance.

The Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews became one of the most marketable players in the NHL after winning the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010. He has endorsement deals with Bauer Hockey, Canadian Tire, Chevrolet and Lemonhead.

Andrew Luck the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts doesnt have too many endorsement deals. He only has an endorsement from Body Armour Superdrink, and TD ameritrade.
